Hot on the heels of the Tinariwen Tunng caravanserai around the UK in March, the full 7 piece Tinariwen band will head off to Australia for four dates, including Sydney Opera House and Byron Bay Blues Festival. After that its a hop across the Pacific to play at San Francisco Jazz Festival and Coachella, the premium American rock fest. No dates in Europe Im afraid until the summer (possibly) or even October when a full blown European tour will start.

In the past week, Tinariwen have gathered in the frontier village of Tessalit to record a new album with producer Jean-Paul Romann. The recordings will take place in a rented house in Tessalit and out in the bush in nomad camps and other magical locations. The adventure is being filmed by French film-maker Jessy Nottola, who has already done great work with west African reggae super-hero Tiken Jah Fakoly. With good inspiration and fair wind, the new album should be released in June of next year.

Following the success of their encounter in the studios of the BBC in London, Tinariwen and the English experimental cryptic electro-folkies Tunng are going on tour in the UK in March. Ibrahim, Eyadou and Said will be joining the Tunng crew for the 10 date jaunt.
